WPP has tapped McCann global CEO Tyler Turnbull to be the next global CEO of WPP Creative, according to sources close to the matter.
The move pulls Turnbull out of McCann less than a year after he took the network's top job in December 2025. His brief tenure covered one of the most consequential restructuring projects in recent holding-company history.
What did Turnbull inherit at McCann?
Turnbull led McCann through its integration into Omnicom following the holding company's acquisition of Interpublic Group (IPG). The deal created three global creative networks under the Omnicom umbrella: BBDO, TBWA and McCann.
That integration placed Turnbull at the center of decisions about how a legacy IPG agency brand would survive and compete inside a larger, reconfigured portfolio. His departure to WPP removes a key operator from that process just months after it began.
Where did Turnbull make his name?
Before McCann, Turnbull worked at FCB Global, which has since shut down. He is credited with revitalizing the agency's Canadian operation, landing clients including Home Depot, Air Canada and BMW Canada.
That record propelled him to the FCB global CEO role in 2022. The Canadian turnaround, built on winning anchor accounts in a competitive market, established the credentials that carried him to two of the industry's biggest creative network jobs in quick succession.
Why does the appointment matter for WPP?
WPP has now secured an executive with recent first-hand experience of holding-company consolidation — the same challenge reshaping WPP's own competitive set. Turnbull has run a global creative network through an M&A-driven reorganization, and he arrives at WPP Creative as the industry's largest groups continue to merge and prune their agency portfolios.
For McCann and Omnicom, the loss comes at a delicate moment: the three-network structure Turnbull helped manage is still settling, and his successor will inherit the unfinished integration work.
