The brief
- Chris Dunne has been Thinkbox's head of marketing since 2017 and takes over as marketing director at the end of the year.
- Dunne succeeds Andrew MacGillivray, who is leaving after 20 years at the company, and will join the Thinkbox board.
- Dunne spent two and a half years as CEO of LGBTQIA+ advocacy group Outvertising and previously worked at Metro, Global and Guardian Media Group Radio.
Thinkbox has appointed Chris Dunne as its new marketing director, naming him the TV advertising body's top marketer and successor to outgoing CMO Andrew MacGillivray.
Dunne currently serves as head of marketing at Thinkbox, a position he has held since 2017. He will take on the marketing director role at the end of the year, following MacGillivray's departure after two decades at the company.
Alongside the promotion, Dunne will join the Thinkbox board as marketing director.
For the last two and a half years, Dunne has combined his Thinkbox role with the CEO position at Outvertising, the advertising industry's LGBTQIA+ advocacy group. He recently announced his decision to step down from that leadership role.
Before joining Thinkbox, Dunne worked as a marketer across several high-profile media organisations, including Metro, Global and Guardian Media Group Radio.
His industry credentials extend well beyond his day job. Dunne is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and holds memberships in ISBA's Accessible Advertising Network, The Advertising Association's All In Mental Health Working Group, and the IPA's Effectiveness Leadership Group.
Thinkbox CEO Lindsay Clay said she is excited about "the energy and impact" that Dunne can bring to the organisation at "such an important time for TV".
"We are so fortunate to have such a talented marketing leader in our midst ready to step up," Clay says. "But Chris is not only an excellent marketer and leader; he's a hugely respected member of the advertising industry more broadly, with an impressive track record."
The appointment signals continuity at the top of Thinkbox's marketing function, with an internal candidate stepping up after nearly eight years in the head of marketing role. MacGillivray leaves after 20 years with the company, closing a two-decade chapter in its leadership.
