KnitWell Group has appointed Angelica Munson as chief digital and customer data officer, a newly created role at the parent company of Ann Taylor, Loft, Talbots and Chico's, according to a Sept. 22 press release.

In the position, Munson will oversee customer data, customer insights, AI-assisted marketing tools, personalization, digital marketing and other elements of KnitWell's enterprise strategy. The company said it aims to draw on her experience to improve customer loyalty and long-term growth across its portfolio of brands.

Munson joins from Shiseido Group, where she served as global chief digital officer. There she refined the company's global digital capabilities and launched the Beauty Tech Lab, which provided AI-based skin diagnostics. Her earlier roles include senior positions at Fast Retailing — including Theory and Helmut Lang — and at Estée Lauder's Clinique brand.

"Angelica is a highly respected digital and transformation leader whose experience sits at the intersection of customer insight, technology, marketing, and commerce," Lizanne Kindler, executive chair and CEO of KnitWell Group, said in the press release. "Her expertise in building enterprise capabilities across data, digital, and customer engagement will help create the tools, insights, and infrastructure our brands need to continue growing and thriving."

The appointment comes three years after Ann Taylor, Loft and Talbots came together under the holding company KnitWell Group. That move partially rebuilt a conglomerate of apparel brands previously held by Ascena Group, which was dismantled during the company's bankruptcy. Private equity firm Sycamore Partners acquired Ann Taylor, Loft, Lane Bryant and Lou & Grey during that bankruptcy process.

Sycamore then acquired Chico's FAS in 2024 for $1 billion, a deal that included the company's namesake brand along with White House Black Market and Soma. The Chico's brands became part of KnitWell Group. Sycamore Partners now counts KnitWell Group among its portfolio companies, which also include Staples and Torrid.

The hire signals that KnitWell is investing in shared data and digital infrastructure across its newly assembled brand stable. Ann Taylor, for its part, is eyeing a comeback: this summer the brand debuted its first major integrated marketing campaign in nearly a decade. Munson's remit suggests that enterprise-level customer data, AI-assisted marketing and personalization will be central to how KnitWell's brands convert that renewed marketing push into sustained customer loyalty.
