TikTok Shop U.S. will open its Black Friday and Cyber Monday campaign on Nov. 11, one day earlier than last year, and run it through Nov. 30, according to the platform's newsroom.

The window covers the core of the U.S. holiday shopping period. During the campaign, TikTok users can buy products directly in the app and watch livestreams from sellers of all types. Two named participants stand out in the platform's announcement: Beachwaver, a hair-tool brand that built its business on viral social content, and Old Navy, the Gap-owned mass-market retailer.

The combination matters. Livestream shopping (video broadcasts where hosts sell products in real time) has struggled to replicate its Chinese scale in Western markets. TikTok Shop's decision to open a day earlier than last year signals the platform wants a longer runway before Black Friday itself — and, implicitly, that it expects competitors to crowd the calendar.

What does the earlier start change?

A Nov. 11 launch puts TikTok Shop in the field before most traditional retailers discount heavily. For brands selling on the platform, that means planning inventory, creator content and livestream schedules around a mid-November start rather than the Thanksgiving-weekend peak. The details of how TikTok will structure deals, promotions or creator incentives across the 20-day window were not spelled out in the announcement.

Who is selling?

The platform says users can shop "from all types of sellers," and it names two:

  • Beachwaver — a beauty-brand case study in social commerce, previously covered by Modern Retail for how it navigates a shifting social-commerce market.
  • Old Navy — a mass apparel retailer, a signal that large legacy retail is treating TikTok Shop as a serious channel, not just an experiment for digital-native brands.

The pairing of a viral-native brand with a Gap Inc. banner is the most concrete evidence in the announcement that TikTok Shop is broadening its seller base.

What is not said

TikTok Shop calls this its "biggest holiday season ever," but the announcement offers no sales forecasts, no GMV (gross merchandise value) targets and no seller-count figures. The platform's regulatory position in the U.S. also remains unresolved, and the announcement does not address it. Brands committing budget to the 20-day window are doing so on the platform's confidence alone.

The campaign's structure — Nov. 11 to Nov. 30, livestreams, direct checkout — is confirmed. Its commercial payoff is not yet.

How Old Navy and Beachwaver perform during the window will offer the first real read on whether TikTok Shop's holiday bet converts attention into transactions.
