Lululemon has named Tara Poseley, its chief product officer from 2013 to 2015, to its board of directors effective Monday, fulfilling a settlement obligation to founder Chip Wilson that required the company to add a director with apparel product and brand expertise by Oct. 1.

Poseley brings more than 30 years of retail and apparel experience to the role. Her résumé spans Lululemon itself, a stint as CEO of Paula's Choice Skincare, and earlier positions at Kmart and Gap Inc. The company announced the appointment in a press release.

The hire closes a chapter in a long and public fight over leadership at the athletics brand. Under a cooperation agreement reached with Wilson earlier this year, the founder gained the right to add two board members of his own: former ESPN Chief Marketing Officer Laura Gentile and former On co-CEO Marc Maurer. The same deal obligated Lululemon to find a director with product and brand credentials by the Oct. 1 deadline.

"Tara brings deep product expertise and understands what makes Lululemon special," Wilson said in a statement.

What does the appointment signal?

CEO Heidi O'Neill, who took the top job a little over a month ago, framed Poseley's arrival as reinforcement for the company's product-first strategy.

"Her insights and guidance will be invaluable as we put product, design, and innovation at the center of how we operate to deliver on the company's next chapter of success," O'Neill said in a statement.

The board move lands amid a broader executive shake-up. O'Neill recently overhauled the retailer's C-suite and placed Athleta CEO Maggie Gauger in charge of product. Starting Monday, Gauger will oversee merchandising, design, product innovation and additional functions. The restructuring is aimed at reprioritizing design across the business.

Some analysts flagged an open question: other key positions, including the role of creative director, have not been turned over. That gap leaves the full shape of O'Neill's leadership reset still unsettled.

For marketers, the through-line is clear. Lululemon is consolidating product, design and brand expertise at both the board and executive level, betting that merchandising depth — not marketing spend alone — will drive its next phase of growth.
