Jay-Z has chosen himself to headline the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium, according to Puck. If the report holds, the rapper will take the stage his own company has produced for the NFL since 2019.
The stakes are easy to size. Roc Nation's deal with the NFL, first signed in 2019 and renewed for five years in 2024, covers production and strategy for the halftime show, which Apple Music sponsors. This would be the first time Jay-Z headlines it himself.
What did Jay-Z say about the timing?
He addressed the question directly in 2024, in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Picking himself too soon, he said, would be "selfish" — but he left the door open with two words: "Maybe one year."
That year now appears to be 2027. The broadcast runs on Disney platforms, per Puck's report.
Who else was in the running?
Puck named two other candidates for the slot:
- Miley Cyrus
- Justin Bieber
Neither has been confirmed by the league or its partners. The NFL, Apple, and Roc Nation did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Can he still draw an audience without a new album?
The numbers say yes. Jay-Z hasn't released an album since 2017, yet he retains the cachet to fill arenas. He plays two shows at SoFi Stadium this weekend — the same venue as the 2027 Super Bowl — where, Puck reported, he could announce the news himself.
How big is the halftime platform now?
Last year's benchmark gives the answer. Bad Bunny's Puerto Rico-inspired set at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco drew 4.157 billion views in 24 hours across global broadcast, YouTube, and social platforms, according to Apple Music, the NFL, and Roc Nation.
That's the audience Jay-Z's company now hands its own founder. Watch SoFi Stadium this weekend — if Puck's timeline is right, the announcement could land before the game itself does.
