DoorDash has added Macy's, Anthropologie, The North Face, Vans and Timberland to its retail marketplace this week, extending one of the company's most aggressive expansion months to date.

The new retailer lineup arrives alongside Dasher Returns, a service designed to fix one of e-commerce's persistent friction points: sending items back. Instead of a trip to a post office or a drop-off point, customers coordinate a DoorDash pickup, and a Dasher handles the return.

DoorDash is also pushing deeper into conversational AI. The company announced Text DoorDash, an expansion of its Ask DoorDash in-app assistant built for conversational browsing help. The feature lets customers place orders through simple text communication without ever opening the DoorDash app.

That tool signals where DoorDash sees the next battleground: lowering the effort between intent and purchase. If a shopper can complete a transaction in a text thread, the app itself becomes optional infrastructure rather than the required gateway.

This week's announcements follow a milestone partnership with Costco, which DoorDash announced earlier this month. Costco had sat at the top of DoorDash's wish list of new retailers to add, according to the company, making the deal both a symbolic and practical win against competing delivery platforms.

The Costco deal was not the only grocery move this month. DoorDash also expanded its Snap/EBT program, adding seven new grocers to its network. The new partners include regional chains Albertsons Market, Amigos and Boyer's Food Markets.

Taken together, the month shows DoorDash working three fronts at once. It is signing national apparel and department-store brands to widen the marketplace beyond food. It is deepening grocery access, including for shoppers paying with government benefits. And it is shipping AI features that change how customers interact with the platform at all.

The retail expansion matters strategically. DoorDash built its business on restaurant delivery, a category with thin margins and fierce competition. Adding names like Macy's and The North Face moves the platform into higher-basket general merchandise, where delivery economics look different and loyalty is easier to build around selection.

The Snap/EBT expansion points in a similar direction. By onboarding regional grocers, DoorDash widens its addressable audience to shoppers who previously had limited access to delivery services for staple purchases.

For brands and retailers weighing third-party marketplaces, the message from DoorDash's month is clear: the platform is consolidating scale across categories, and it is building the tooling, from returns logistics to conversational ordering, to keep shoppers inside its ecosystem. Retailers not yet on the marketplace will face a platform that keeps adding competitors to the roster.
