“In the second quarter of 2026, improvements to Meta’s ads ranking system drove 8.3% more ad clicks and a 15.7% uplift in conversions on Facebook,” Meta said in an Oct. 28 announcement.
Andrew Hutchinson’s latest “Sociable” commentary for Social Media Today examined Meta’s evolving, AI-powered ad-delivery systems. Hutchinson framed Meta’s case around expanded data-processing capacity: the company says it understands users better and targets ads more systematically.
What changed in Meta’s ad-ranking systems?
The company listed three key innovations behind the gains.
- Andromeda: Meta said the first step in the display process now considers a wider range of potential product matches for each business and aligns them with individual user interests. The company said the change improves matching and opportunity.
- GEM: Meta said its Generative Ads Recommendation Model can process more data and assess more signals from each user’s ad-engagement history. The company said GEM uses those inputs to show the right ads to the right people and improve relevance.
- GenRecs: Meta said the system better matches ad engagement with user preferences to predict the most relevant promotions for each person, “even with brand-new ads with little engagement history.”
Meta says these systems can assess more signals even for brand-new ads with little engagement history.
What did Meta report for Q3?
Meta reported two additional third-quarter results.
- Andromeda improvements increased Facebook conversions by 1.4% in Q3, the company said.
- Meta launched generative retrieval on Facebook Feed in Q3, and the feature drove a nearly 2% increase in conversions across targeted segments, the company said.
Meta’s reported gains span both ranking improvements and generative retrieval on Facebook Feed.
Where is AI already changing the sale?
Meta is already applying AI beyond ad ranking. In a separate press release sent to Social Media Today, the company said its AI business assistant, which it is gradually rolling out to more advertisers, is producing 5% more conversions at the same cost.
The company also reported that partnership ads, which let brands run ads with creators and other partners, grew more than 97% year over year in Q3. Meta said the format has surpassed a $15 billion annual revenue run rate.
Meta is also developing checkout options inside its various AI agents, including Muse. The company said the options will give users more ways to make a purchase in-stream.
Meta has a measured result at the ad stage; the checkout work remains under development.
How does more processing power change targeting?
Hutchinson’s “Sociable” column tied Meta’s growing processing capacity to its data-center projects. He said the added capacity lets the company analyze a broader range of user actions and products faster, spot more trends in audience-response data and identify correlations between those trends and ad response.
He said combining those findings with rapid AI processing enables Meta to deliver better results for advertisers. The practical test for brands is whether those gains hold as Meta widens the assistant rollout and develops in-stream checkout.
Meta’s next proof point is whether AI that improves ad selection can also make in-stream checkout easier to complete.
