BrandMe, The Marketing Academy, Media Lab, Sky Media and VCCP make the shortlist for the 2026 Talent Trailblazer Award, with the winner revealed on 19 November.
Wire notes
- Five companies are shortlisted for the 2026 Talent Trailblazer Award: BrandMe, The Marketing Academy, Media Lab, Sky Media and VCCP.
- The winner will be announced at the Marketing Week Awards ceremony on 19 November.
- The 2025 award was won by the Neverland Flying Academy, which offers eight young people a six-week paid internship.
Marketing Week and the Advertising Association have shortlisted five companies for the 2026 Talent Trailblazer Award, the free-to-enter prize that recognises individuals and organisations opening the marketing industry to people who may never have considered it as a career.
The shortlisted nominees span agencies, media owners and education-focused programmes:
- BrandMe for Beyond and Helping Hands
- The Marketing Academy for BeTheOne
- Media Lab for The Talent Trailblazer
- Sky Media for Shine
- VCCP for Challenger Academy
All five schemes aim to broaden access to the industry, but they take different forms. Work experience programmes, mentorships, live briefs and pitches all feature across the shortlist.
BrandMe: live briefs and a route into design
BrandMe's Beyond and Helping Hands initiative helps design students break into the industry as professional designers. The programme runs tailored university talks and challenges students with a live brief that applies their skills in a professional context, reflecting the realities of agency life. The overall winner from across the four participating universities received a one-month internship at BrandMe.
The Marketing Academy: bootcamps for social mobility
The Marketing Academy's BeTheOne launched with a goal to increase social mobility in marketing. The free, one-day employability bootcamp helps young people find their fit in the industry, grow their confidence and build the connections to start a career, with a specific focus on getting those from low-income backgrounds into marketing. Agencies and brands, including Lego and Snap, host and co-deliver the day, supported by volunteer marketers.
Media Lab: eight cohorts and counting
Media Lab identified a need to focus on underrepresented groups, particularly ethnic minority, disabled and working-class talent. The company has hosted students through the IPA's Advertising Unlocked initiative, offered internal mentoring for all entry-level employees and championed employee-led communities. Its bootcamp with WYK Digital has so far spanned eight cohorts, helping young people from underrepresented groups overcome barriers to work through a 'soft-skills' accelerator.
VCCP: eight weeks beyond London
VCCP's Challenger Academy is an eight-week work experience programme tackling accessibility and social diversity shortages in the creative industries. It initially ran for post-16 students across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire and has now expanded to Nottingham. VCCP and OLIVER provide industry mentors, while partnerships with Music Venue Trust and regional educational institutions strengthen the programme.
The benchmark to beat
The 2025 Talent Trailblazer Award went to the Neverland Flying Academy, a scheme offering eight young people a six-week paid internship with exposure to the agency's creative, strategy, production and client service teams. Many of those interns go on to work in the industry.
The winner of the 2026 award will be announced at the Marketing Week Awards ceremony on 19 November, alongside the winners of the Marketing Week Awards categories, in partnership with Ozone. For brands and agencies watching the talent pipeline, the shortlist offers a working blueprint of five different models for reaching talent the industry has historically missed.
