MediaLink founder Michael Kassan has personally invested in OptimizeGEO, a generative engine optimization startup valued at $80 million in its pre-Series A round.

Kassan declined to disclose the size of his investment. The round is led by Young Capital.

OptimizeGEO tracks and shapes how brands appear in answers generated by ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, and Copilot. The startup operates in the emerging category of generative engine optimization, or GEO — the practice of managing brand visibility inside AI-generated responses rather than traditional search results pages.

Kassan framed the bet as a fundamental shift in consumer discovery, not an incremental change to search marketing.

"GEO is bigger than the evolution of search, changing how consumers are discovering brands," Kassan said. "As we see more and more of that, there may not actually be a search page. That's the reasoning in terms of the timing and the opportunity."

His timing argument is straightforward. If consumers increasingly receive answers directly from AI engines instead of scrolling through ranked links, the battleground for brand visibility moves from the search results page to the training data, retrieval sources, and answer formats those engines rely on. OptimizeGEO positions itself as the measurement and influence layer for that new surface.

The investment also marks a notable post-MediaLink move for Kassan, one of the media and marketing industry's best-connected executives. He built MediaLink into a dominant advisory firm at the intersection of brands, agencies, and media companies before its acquisition by United Talent Agency in 2021 and his subsequent departure from the business in 2024. Since then, industry watchers have tracked where he would place his capital and attention.

A stake in a pre-Series A GEO startup answers that question in a pointed way. Kassan is putting money behind the premise that generative AI answers — across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google's AI Overviews — are becoming a primary discovery channel for consumers, and that brands will pay to understand and manage their presence there.

The $80 million valuation for a company that has not yet raised a Series A signals strong investor conviction in the category. Young Capital, the Dutch investment firm, led the round.

For brand marketers, the deal underscores a practical question they increasingly face: when an AI engine answers a consumer query, which brands get named, cited, or recommended — and can that outcome be measured and influenced? OptimizeGEO's pitch is that it can, across the six major AI answer surfaces it covers.

Kassan's prediction that "there may not actually be a search page" suggests he sees the window for building GEO infrastructure as open now, before AI-driven discovery fully replaces traditional search behavior. His investment signals to the marketing ecosystem that at least one of its most influential dealmakers expects that shift to accelerate — and is willing to fund the tools that will manage it.
