Arc'teryx opened a climbing-only concept store on Abbot Kinney in Venice, California, on Saturday, Oct. 8, the first of its kind from the Canada-based outdoor athletic retailer, according to a company release issued Monday.
The location counts as Arc'teryx's fourth in the Los Angeles area and its fifth in Southern California. It carries a climb-focused assortment of the brand's apparel and equipment, plus a curated mix of third-party climbing products.
What's inside the store?
The space features a Grasshopper climbing wall, a Beta Board, a lounge and an outdoor patio. The Beta Lounge holds furniture from local design studio Waka Waka and guidebooks from Alpinist and Summit Journal. A projection series titled "Arc Presents" screens climbing films for visitors.
Two LA-area climbing organizations, ABA and Long Beach Rising, helped Arc'teryx build community ties ahead of opening day. Long Beach Rising will keep a permanent presence in the space, taking responsibility for "regularly updating routes and holds on the climbing wall" and curating the third-party product assortment, per the release. Events and workshops will run alongside the programming calendar.
How does leadership frame the move?
"Our best stores are shaped by the communities they serve," Stephanie Jamieson, senior director of brand community at Arc'teryx North America, said in a statement. "We wanted to create a place that LA climbers would genuinely want to spend time in: somewhere to learn from one another, connect with the local scene and find new ways to get involved. The climbing wall, lounge, patio and programming all come back to that idea, creating a space that supports the community in ways that go well beyond shopping."
Delaney Schweitzer, general manager of Arc'teryx North America, tied the store to the brand's history. "At Arc'teryx climbing is part of our DNA and community has always been core to how we think about retail," Schweitzer said in a statement. "The shared connection we have to climb with the Los Angeles community was the catalyst for the creation of this new store concept."
What's the financial backdrop?
Arc'teryx's owner, Amer Sports, posted technical-apparel revenue of $674 million in Q2 2026, up 32% year over year, with Arc'teryx driving the gain. The segment closed the quarter with 305 stores, a 34% year-over-year increase.
Amer lifted its Q3 2026 revenue guidance to 20-22% growth on Sept. 16, up from a prior 18-20% range. "In addition to another strong third quarter, we also expect great things from our company long-term," CFO Andrew Page said in a statement. Amer tied the outlook to three growth engines — Arc'teryx, Salomon Softgoods and Wilson Tennis 360 — and reiterated its five-year financial algorithm.
What comes next?
The retailer pre-announced plans to open 30 to 35 net new stores in 2026. In February it hired former Tommy Hilfiger executive Avery Baker as Arc'teryx's first chief brand officer, tasking her with global brand strategy, marketing, communications and a new consumer experience team.
The Venice opening lands that footprint ambition squarely on a community-led retail format, with climbing events and partner-run programming expected to anchor traffic well beyond product transactions.
