Infillion has added another piece to its advertising technology portfolio. On Friday, the company announced its acquisition of Foursquare, the location data firm whose check-in roots evolved into a broader ad tech and measurement business.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Axios broke the news. Rob Emrich, Infillion's CEO, told the outlet that the company intends to remain an "active acquirer" as clients increasingly consolidate their vendor relationships — a shift he sees driving demand for broader, integrated ad tech platforms.

The acquisition follows a clear pattern for Infillion. As AdExchanger noted in its reporting, if there is a strategically interesting or distressed ad tech asset on the market, Infillion tends to find it. Foursquare is the latest example.

For marketers, the deal signals where location intelligence now sits in the programmatic stack: not as a standalone category, but as one input among many that agencies and brands expect a single partner to deliver. Foursquare's location data, foot-traffic measurement and audience capabilities now fold into Infillion's growing suite of media and ad tech services.

Infillion has built its strategy around absorbing established ad tech assets and integrating them into a unified offering. The approach positions the company to serve clients looking to reduce the number of point solutions they manage — a procurement trend that has accelerated as marketing budgets face tighter scrutiny.

The purchase also reflects broader consolidation across the ad tech sector. Independent vendors with valuable data assets but limited scale increasingly face a choice: sell, or compete against larger, better-capitalized platforms. Location data providers in particular have faced pressure as privacy regulation, signal loss and shifting measurement standards have raised the cost of maintaining high-quality data products.

What comes next for the combined entity remains to be seen. Emrich's stated intent to keep acquiring suggests Foursquare will not be Infillion's last deal. The company declined to disclose how Foursquare's brand and product lines will be integrated, and no timeline for consolidation was provided.

For now, the takeaway for marketing buyers is straightforward: one more independent location data provider has left the market, and Infillion's stack has grown larger.
