AdMonsters Merges Into AdExchanger Under Single Domain

AdMonsters has merged into sister brand AdExchanger under one domain, as shared owner Access Intelligence unifies ad ops and programmatic coverage for publishers.

AdMonsters has officially joined sister brand AdExchanger, unifying its content under one site on AdExchanger's domain. Both brands share the same owner, Access Intelligence — a fact that has surprised many readers over the years, the company acknowledged.

The integration is not new. Since last spring, the two outlets have shared editors, held joint team meetings and merged their backend operations. Now the front end follows.

The rationale: the traditional split between ad ops and programmatic increasingly matters less. "Ad ops pros need to know programmatic, and everyone benefits from understanding the ad tech stack end to end," the announcement stated. AdMonsters has historically leaned into the ad ops side of publishing, while AdExchanger focused on programmatic.

The company says combining the brands will create more scale and visibility for AdMonsters content and further connect the two audiences. The AdMonsters brand itself is not disappearing — coverage of publisher concerns, including ad ops, continues.

What stays in the coverage mix

The unified site will keep profiling publishers achieving results with their ad ops goals. Recent examples cited include:

  • The New York Post, which placed greater emphasis on direct deals as it improved its first-party data capabilities.
  • U.S. News & World Report, which connected its data management platform, content management platform and content recommendation system to create high-fidelity audience segments.
  • A cohort-style network built by Justin Barton, CEO of AdGrid Media, designed to help publishers such as Ebony generate traffic and revenue.

Coverage will also track the stories shaping day-to-day work for publisher ad ops teams. One example: Amazon's entry into the Prebid ecosystem last year, when it launched an adapter integrating demand from its DSP directly into Prebid auctions. That adapter is now open for beta testing, as reported in the writer's first article on AdExchanger.

The site also documented the Transaction ID (TID) dispute that pitted Prebid against The Trade Desk. After Prebid announced it would remove universal TIDs — which buyers used to avoid auction duplication — The Trade Desk launched its own auction wrapper, OpenAds, reintroducing Transaction IDs.

Sitting alongside AdExchanger's publisher content

AdMonsters stories will join in-depth publisher coverage already on AdExchanger.com. Recent examples include reporter Joanna Gerber's piece on how The Onion leans into content not considered "brand safe" — including Jeffrey Epstein jokes — embracing the snark its audience expects while other news publishers tread lightly with advertisers. Senior Editor Anthony Vargas covered how generative AI has upended monetization on the open web, hurting publisher revenue and traffic: click-through rates plummet on publisher sites when Google's AI Overviews or ChatGPT summarize content.

An open invitation

The team is asking readers for input on what to cover: which ad tech terms still cause confusion, which platforms and strategies are helping teams reach ad and rev ops goals, and which KPIs and signals are driving a sustainable auction for selling ad space. Feedback goes to [email protected].

The road ahead "is still open with possibilities," the announcement closed, pledging continued commitment to the AdMonsters community.
