Livestreams Drive 94% of TikTok Shop US Luxury Resale Revenue

Livestreaming has become the dominant sales channel for luxury resale on TikTok Shop in the United States.

Year-to-date, 94% of the platform's U.S. luxury resale revenue comes from livestreams, TikTok Shop revealed last week at its inaugural Luxury Resale Summit in New York City. The disclosure signals how central live commerce has become to a category that traditionally depends on high-touch, high-consideration purchasing behavior.

The numbers behind the growth are substantial. Luxury resale on TikTok Shop has posted a 400% year-over-year spike in gross merchandise value. Handbags and watches account for much of that expansion.

Built on trust and exclusivity

Luxury resale carries two structural challenges: buyers deliberate carefully before purchasing, and the category is a frequent target of counterfeits. TikTok Shop is working to position itself as a destination buyers can trust, and its approach starts with scarcity.

The category is exclusive by design. Sellers cannot simply opt in — they must be invited to sell luxury resale on the platform. Once invited, they are required to work with one of TikTok Shop's five authentication partners: Entrupy, Legitmark, CheckCheck, Legit App and Real Authentication.

That verification layer addresses authenticity concerns. But livestreams add a second layer of buyer confidence, according to Rainee Walker, head of category for luxury resale in the U.S. for TikTok Shop.

Lives show a product's wear-and-tear, dimensions and other details in real time, Walker said. For secondhand luxury goods — where condition can vary significantly from item to item — that transparency matters. A static listing photo may hide scuffs or staining; a live broadcast cannot.

Why it matters for marketers

The 94% livestream revenue share is a striking data point for brands and retailers weighing live commerce strategies. It suggests that in categories where trust and product condition are decisive factors, real-time video can convert at a scale that conventional listings do not match.

The 400% GMV growth also indicates that authenticated resale is scaling quickly on social platforms, not just on dedicated marketplaces. For luxury brands, resale programs and authentication partners, TikTok Shop's invite-only model and its five-partner verification network offer a template for how social commerce can absorb high-consideration categories.

The platform's inaugural Luxury Resale Summit itself signals intent: TikTok Shop is investing in the category as a strategic growth vertical, not a side business.
