Google Cuts Search Profiles Follower Threshold to 10,000
Google cuts Search profiles follower threshold from 35,000 to 10,000, adds single-login management for sub-brands and a redesigned article display.

Google has rolled out a set of updates to Search profiles aimed at publishers, the company confirmed. The changes cover three areas: account management, eligibility requirements, and article presentation.
One login, multiple accounts. Publishers can now claim and manage Search profiles for all of their sub-brands from a single Google login. The update removes the old method of juggling multiple Google accounts, one per Search profile. For larger publications that run Search profiles across numerous brands, this should simplify account management considerably.
Follower requirement drops to 10,000. When Search profiles first launched, Google required publishers to hold 100,000 subscribers on YouTube, Instagram, X, or TikTok to qualify. The company has now cut that threshold to 10,000 followers across any of those four platforms.
This is the second reduction in quick succession. Roughly a month ago, Google lowered the requirement from 100,000 to 35,000 followers. The new 10,000-follower bar opens the feature to a much wider pool of small and mid-sized publishers.
New design. Google is also rolling out a refreshed design for Search profiles, specifically the display of articles. Google said the redesign makes it "easier for people to discover and dive deeper into your content."
Image thumbnails are now optimized so articles "look their best," according to Google. The company also increased the permitted headline length, giving publishers more room in how their stories appear.
Why it matters. Google continues to add features designed to help publishers win more visibility in Search and Discover. The lowered follower requirement gives far more publishers access to Search profiles, while the single-login workflow and design changes should help those already using the feature extract more value from it.
