Walmart Expands Scintilla With Marketplace Data and Deeper AI
Walmart will add marketplace data, custom dashboards, alerts and a deeper Marty AI agent to its Scintilla supplier platform next year, announced at the Inspire conference.

Walmart is preparing a major upgrade to Scintilla, its first-party data and insights platform for merchants and suppliers. The company announced the changes at its Walmart Data Ventures Inspire conference this week, with the new features rolling out next year.
The update package covers several areas:
- Marketplace data access. Scintilla users will for the first time be able to draw on Walmart marketplace data, extending the platform's reach beyond suppliers to marketplace sellers.
- Customizable dashboards. Suppliers will be able to tailor their analytics views to their own business needs.
- Custom alerts. Users can set notifications around the metrics that matter to them.
- A deeper version of Marty. Walmart's AI agent for Scintilla gets expanded capabilities.
- Tighter integration with Scintilla In-Store. The supplier app, launched for third-party retail execution at Walmart, will connect more closely with the core data platform.
- Closer links to Walmart's replenishment systems. The goal: connect insight directly to action on inventory.
Mark Hardy, head of Walmart Data Ventures, framed the changes as part of a single strategy across supplier and seller relationships.
"We're having one consistent approach of working and collaborating with our suppliers, and eventually marketplace sellers, as well, giving them the full visibility so that we can actually push the right business or push the right experience to our customers wherever they are," Hardy told Modern Retail.
For marketers, the move signals Walmart's continued push to monetize its first-party data assets and position Scintilla as a central workspace for commercial decision-making on its platform. The marketplace data addition is notable because it extends analytics visibility to a seller population that has grown rapidly across retail media and marketplace channels.
The deeper Marty agent also fits the broader industry pattern of retailers embedding generative AI assistants into supplier-facing tools, letting users query data in natural language rather than through static reports.
The integration with replenishment systems points in a practical direction. Rather than stopping at insight, Walmart wants suppliers to act on Scintilla signals — from inventory positioning to in-store execution via the Scintilla In-Store app — within a connected workflow.
Walmart Data Ventures, the retail giant's first-party data and analytics division, has been steadily evolving the platform toward an AI-driven focus, as Modern Retail has previously reported.
